For misleading the American people, and launching the most foolish war since Emperor Augustus in 9 B.C. sent his legions into Germany and lost them, Bush deserves to be impeached and, once he has been removed from office, put on trial along with the rest of the president's men. [Emphasis mine.] - Martin Van Creveld (Via Eric Alterman.)
A co-worker said that Bush looked like he was on drugs during his speech at the Naval Academy this morning. Anyone else notice anything odd about his physical demeanor?
Thanksgiving came and went without effort or issue. It was the first week-end I didn't have to paint, clean out the garage, move furniture or do something major in about six months. That's probably an exaggeration, but not by much. I did have a plumbing emergency which has me home this morning rather than on my way to work, but that's just part of the charm of being a homeowner.
I'm now ready for the week-long visit of my best friend from Alaska, Jim Kaiser. He gets to help me put up the Christmas tree next week-end. We'll spend next week-end picking out the tree, putting up the lights, baking cookies, and drinking hot chocolate.
I haven't felt much like blogging these past couple of weeks. I think I'm experiencing some low-grade depression. With as much grief as is being visited on the GOPers and their idiot savant in charge of the country, I should be manic, but alas and alack, I feel nothing. That bunch of crooks are still in control of the country. They're still stealing, killing, and wrecking havoc with our Constitution. Frankly, I don't see how any sentient being cannot be but a little depressed.
Oh well. I hope your holiday was blessed and peaceful.
Despite a law stating that only parents and grandparents have the right to inflict corporal punishment on children, the Texas Attorney General (a Republican) stated that school districts in Texas retained the right to paddle students.
In Cleveland, Texas, a boy was paddled so brutally that he needed medical attention. He was punished in spite of instructions from his parents to the school district denying the district permission to do so. The superintendent of the school district said that the permission slip was a courtesy that in no way restricted the district.
You Texans deserve to get pissed on by your elected officials. They have no respect for you. They don't need to respect you because you're too goddamn stuipid to do anything but vote for Republicans who piss on you every time they can.
Someone asked if I was going to comment about Bill O'Reilly's latest episode where he calls on Al Qaeda to blow up Coit Tower. The only reaction I have is "who the fuck cares?" Mark Morford sums it up quite nicely in this morning's San Francisco Chronicle.
He's too easy a target, really, Bill O'Reilly of the casually toxic Fox News, too bloviated and too silly and too undercooked, and no one whose opinion you truly value or with an IQ higher than their waist size actually watches him with anything resembling intellectual honesty or takes anything he says the slightest bit seriously.
I certainly don't--take him seriously, that is. He's a prime asshole and a bully to boot. I wouldn't walk across the street to piss on him if he was on fire.
Mother came up Friday for the week-end. Friday was her 79th birthday. I took her to dinner at Soluna in San Francisco, followed by the White Christmas (the stage version) at the Orpheum. We had a great time.
She looks pretty good, don't you think? Tonight I'm taking her to hear the San Francisco Chorus sing Mendolsohn's Elijah.
Once again, the great Sky Fairie showed its displeasure with a state that voted for George W. Bush and his "values." An out of season tornado ripped through neighborhoods in Indiana and Kentucky, killing at least 22 people. My condolences to those who lost life and property. First it was the hurricanes, and now tornadoes. Oh dear! My advice to others in Red states is to repent and pray for forgiveness for your ignorance and stupidity that caused you to vote for the antiChrist. The Great Sky Fairie is a just and merciful sky fairie, but it is greatly angered by the havoc being wrecked upon the world by the United States under the leadership of Bush, Cheney, and the Republican Party. Repent before it's too late.
