It was all right. Obama won in that McCain wasn't able to land any punches, and McCain lost because he couldn't land any punches. We have four weeks to go, and from past experiences, we know that Republicans will lie, cheat and steal to stay in power. McCain would have us believe that he's cut from a different Republican cloth than is Bush, Cheney, Rove, DeLay, and their ilk. McCain would have us believe that he is an honorable man. Bullshit. He has made a Faustian bargain with the Republican machine, and in exchange for his soul, they have promised to get him elected President.
Joe Biden had an interesting take on why McCain didn't look at Obama in the first debate. He says McCain's the kind of guy who doesn't look you in the eye when he's saying bad about you, especially if the bad being said is a lie. McCain didn't look at Obama because he was ashamed of what he was saying. He should be.
I'm not sure why Obama wants to be President. I'm distrustful of men with messianic complexes, and Obama doesn't really come across like one with that motivation. Maybe he's just very lucky and realized he was at the right place at the right time and simply seized the opportunity presented. He obviously has a tremendous sense of self and purpose.
I believe Obama will be a good President. He is a consensus builder. He says "we" when McCain says "I." I believe Obama is the better choice for working with the Democratic controlled Congress. Together they can find solutions to the crisis that this country is facing as a result of eight years of the pillage and destroy mismanagement of our country by Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and the Republicans in Congress. I believe Obama will appoint incredible men and women to the federal court system, beginning with the Supreme Court. I believe Obama will appoint an honorable person as Attorney General who will pursue law and justice rather than a political agenda. I believe Obama and the Democratic Party will accept the challenge of dealing with our crumbling infrastructure. I believe. I believe we can.
The following is an interview of a remarkable woman. She is 99 years old, which is itself remarkable, but more so, the most incredible aspect of her story is that she didn't even kick into gear until she was about 87. While recovering from a heart attack, she enrolled in college and eventually earned her Batchelor's degree. She published the first of four books (thus far) at 90.
