« Pussy now, poetry later | Main | Happy Birthday to Me »

I have read a lot of Carl's poems and read a lot about Carl and I have never heard or seen that poem before. I'm sure he was a dynamic person and I doubt I really know him, but this doesn't strike me as words he would utter. He was born long enough back to know Civil War vets and hear horrible stories, and he fought in the Spanish American war in Puerto Rico (well he was there, I don't know if he had to fight). My favorite quote of his is "Someday they'll give a war, and nobody will come"
But it is a damn fine idea that someone wrote down.

I had to thumb through a bit of "The People, Yes" to find it and had success. It ends section 37 in "The People, Yes," and can be found on pages 483-484 of The Complete Poems of Carl Sandburg.
