I wonder when the movie will make it to South Africa... I am sure it will only PERHAPS hit the art circuit here. *sigh* Perhaps I'll have to settle for the book.

I have your "parcel" ready and waiting for my ass to make it to the post office. :)

I'm glad you saw it again, and I'm glad you read the story. I think I had the advantage when I saw the film of having read the story when it came out in The New Yorker in 1997 (I still have the magazine somewhere). It definitely deepened the film for me, and the film -- as you note -- was true to the story.

My only fear when I saw the film was that it would have some kind of subtle impact on the story I've got in progress now. I needn't have worried. I can't come close to Annie Proulx.

Men who fall in love with their tricks usually get to know them pretty well before the sex occurs.

Just caught my eye.

I loved the movie and love what you write about it (even though I don't agree with everything you write).

I also think that one of the main reasons Brokeback Mountain is a big success (also among the heteros - i.e. why it is a big success in general) is that it ends sad. The few gay movies that reach the mainstream are always quite sad. Isn't that strange? And sad?

Great comments on/insights into the film. Thanks!
